Treasure Coast at a Glance
The Treasure Coast is made up of a number of cities from Port
St. Lucie to Sebastian.
The area is named for the gold-and-silver-laden Spanish fleets that were ship
wrecked off Vero
Beach in the 18th Century. Nature lovers in Vero Beach find a number of
attractions, including the Environmental
Learning Center that features walks through a mangrove forest and kayaking
excursions. The beach attracts surfers and the Gulf Stream's proximity offers
good fishing and diving. The New
York Mets train in St. Lucie. The Inlet
State Recreation Area in Sebastian has three miles of beaches, eco-tours
and viewing of loggerhead turtles nesting in June and July. Visitors will also
want to take in Fort
Pierce, a favorite intra-coastal fishing spot and home to the US
Navy SEAL Museum. The Fort
Pierce Inlet State Park is a popular local watersports destination in the
area.
